Former Intel love rat Krzanich finds his calling, lands at biz that sells tech to car dealers

Former Intel boss Brian Krzanich who split from Chipzilla months ago – after a past fling with a fellow employee came to light – is to head up a business that sells tech to dealerships.

CDK Global provides stuff – including an e-commerce platform – for 28,000 automotive, heavy truck, agriculture, marine, and construction resellers.

Let that sink in for a moment: he has switched from a $65bn chip maker to a business that turns over almost $2.27bn, selling to dealers. Mostly car dealers. Presumably, Krzanich gets a modest office, a cheeky little salary and the mandatory sheepskin jacket. A modern-day Del Boy, right out of the BBC's Only Fools and Horses, if you will.

Anyway, Big Bri is rocking up as CEO and president and will take a seat on the board. Krzanich replaces Brian McDonald, who, we are told, will "assist in the transition" after he himself decided his time as CEO was up.

"In evaluating the future of CDK, the Board and Brian McDonald concluded that this is the right time to bring in a proven technology CEO to drive top-line growth," said Leslie Brun, CDK chairman.

Krzanich was made Intel boss in May 2013. He helped steer the top line upwards and brought shareholders joy by more than doubling the share price to $52.74 when he left the firm in June.

Life at Intel, however, started to get more tricky for Krzanich following The Reg's revelations about a design flaw discovered in its CPU – and its difficulties moving to 10nm manufacturing. It didn't help that AMD was and is in the midst of a successful sales cycle.

According to Krzanich, he is "energised by the chance to help grow this unique company and take it to the next level".

He said: "The automotive industry is undergoing changes that will impact and present opportunities for dealers, OEMs, consumers and the technology ecosystem that serves them."
